Even though we both did relatively well, it was not pretty. Physically I had a better race than she did (READ: I did not puke). A few of the highlights were the mob scene at the start and finish line, merging of the marathoners and the half marathoners, lack of signage and heat in the finishers area, water issues, climbing over fences, lack of support, lack of medals, and more! Thank goodness Jeff and Becca were there to take care of us after the race.

I forgot to add in my recap that somewhere around mile 8 I was shoved by a woman. No idea why. I was running along and she just grabbed my arm with both of her hands and shoved me aside. It was probably the rudest thing I’ve even encountered while running. Ever.

ANYHOW …. this weekend I’ll be talking to CoachKristieLV who ran the full marathon and is also from Las Vegas so don’t forget to come back for the next episode.

And don’t miss out on the fun of Episode 36!

Music is <a

They had gotten married weeks ago, but were having a reception for their friends and family. BUT, only the adult friends and family. The invite specifically implied (and the bride reiterated) to leave the kids at home.

I had nothing clean to wear to the wedding. My good clothes needed dry cleaning, so I scrambled on Friday morning to find a cleaner who would have my outfit ready to wear by Saturday evening. Then, I’ve already told you about how I needed a new coat so that I wouldn’t freeze in my newly dry cleaned clothes. And, I had to buy a gift too.

We dropped Zoe off at my brother’s house, and then raced to the other side of the city to get to the wedding dinner before 5:30 p.m., when it would start. Neither my husband nor I were very familiar with the area the hall was in, but we followed the directions on the invitation and were speechless when we turned into what appeared to be a dive bar. Neon Pabst Blue Ribbon flashed in the window.

Oh my.

Then the invite instructed us to follow the parking lot around to the lower level and to the red and yellow striped building in the back.

My pretty jaw fell into my freshly dry cleaned lap when I saw what appeared to be a pole barn — a red and yellow striped pole barn. There were two outside doors facing the parking lot, one read MEN the other read WOMEN.

Seriously? Should I have worn denim and cowboy boots?

I turned to look at my husband, and thank God he was thinking was I was thinking. What the hell kind of wedding reception is this? Windowless building? In the middle of what appeared to be a baseball field? Outdoor bathrooms?

I said, “It’s not too late to go to the movies, ya know.”

So, we went to the movies instead. I have no idea what awaited us in that windowless pole barn, it could have been a gorgeous gala event. Or, it could have been a smoky bar with paper plates and Pabst.

Would you have gone inside?
<div

There are times over the last two years (which is how long I’ve been in grad school now) that I toss and turn until close to midnight. This past Tuesday I tossed and turned all night long. I think I might have slept 15-20 minutes at a time between the hours of midnight and 4:00 a.m. but I’m not entirely sure.

Finally at 5:30 a.m. I gave up trying, and got on the treadmill and ran for an hour. By the time I got to work I was feeling it: exhaustion. My eyes were getting fuzzy and I really felt like if I were to lay down, I’d surely fall asleep. So I went home at noon, put on my jammies and crawled into bed.

And still I couldn’t sleep. I was certain that if I tried hard enough, and long enough, it would happen. I tried reading a book, but that didn’t work. I tried laying on the couch with the tv on, but that didn’t work.

Finally I gave up. It was a Mom’s Night Out for the Milwaukee Moms and I had dinner plans with Freckles and CeCe before we joined the MM’s for drinks and then a play at the Milwaukee Rep Theater. I warned them both that I had not slept since Monday night. After three glasses of wine, spaced out of course, and then a dark theatre, sitting between two good friends, I finally dozed off for a catnap. Ahhhh, sleep! It couldn’t have been more welcome.

Don’t worry though, I did not spend the night at the theater, nor did I snore during the performance. By the time I got home it was 11 p.m. and while I was a little worried that my insomia would continue, I drifted off and got a full night of rest.
<div
