Last night I ran the Superun 5K again. It was 90 degrees out all day, but the run was at 7 p.m. and right on Lake Michigan so the temperature was probably closer to 80 degrees. This time I was prepared for the course and my plan included walking up the hill. Last time I ran up the hill, which was at the end of the first mile, and it killed me for the rest of the run. So I walked up the hill, and yes, it slowed my time down, but I was able to finish the 5K without feeling like I was going to die.
My first mile I did in 9:12 (that’s 9 minutes, 12 seconds), my second mile was about 13 minutes (which wasn’t too bad considering I walked up that freaking big hill), and I crossed the finish line at 34 minutes. There was only one water table at the beginning of mile 3, which I walked through because I actually wanted to drink my water rather than pour it over my head.
I haven’t been running as much as I used to, so I’m not terribly disappointed in my time. I don’t think it’s my worse time ever, but it’s not my best either. I run much faster on a treadmill and my breathing is a lot more controlled. I run outside, and my breathing is all over the place. If I wear my heartrate monitor I end up maxing my heartrate out just because I have the damn thing on.
My husband finished in 22:12, I might be off a few seconds, but it was a personal best for him. He runs almost every day, and he’s preparing for the Lakefront Marathon which is on October 7th.
That reminds me, I’m damn lucky he got into the marathon because it fill early this year and he just made it since I mailed his registration on June 15th and by June 20th the race was closed. He wanted to register a few weeks earlier and made him wait until payday, and he said “if I don’t get in it’ll be all your fault” and I thought to myself, it’s the beginning of JUNE, he’s got at least until AUGUST. Well, not this year, but his name is on the list and like I said, I’m so lucky!Â

Kudos to you both! Wow…gonna run a marathon huh? Good for him! And good for you that his name got on the list. LOL!
I am in awe of your time. I would have needed a stretcher and oxygen after five yards, let alone 5 k!

Way to go on the run! I think that’s an awesome time. It would have taken me at least a couple hours! LOL
