  • Leading actor: Colin Firth, The King’s Speech
  • Supporting actor: Christian Bale, The Fighter (a very close race with Geoffrey Rush, The King’s Speech)
  • Leading actress: Natalie Portman, Black Swan
  • Supporting actress: Amy Adams, The Fighter (even though everyone is probably rooting for Hailee Steinfeld)
  • Animated feature: Toy Story 3
  • Best Picture: The King’s Speech

Just for kicks, here is my ranking for the best pictures from one I enjoyed the most to the one I enjoyed the least:

  1. The King’s Speech
  2. 127 Hours
  3. Toy Story 3
  4. The Fighter
  5. The Social Network
  6. Inception
  7. True Grit
  8. Black Swan
  9. The Kids Are All Right

Of course, since there are 10 movies again this year it’s a two day event. We aren’t attending next week Saturday’s event, but we’ll use the time to see the one last picture that is on our list, which by then will be Black Swan.

Today we saw:

  • The King’s Speech: LOVE IT! This by far my favorite right now.
  • 127 Hours: Very good.
  • True Grit: It was good, witty, and the Coen brothers are always great contenders.
  • The Fighter: Awesome!

We already saw:

  • Toy Story 3: Like you even have to ask me, I love the Toy Story movies! And, did I mention that I met Tom Hanks?
  • The Kids are All Right: It was good, but not really my kind of movie.
  • Inception: I think I need to see this movie again. Jennifer explained it to me. Jay and Jay explained it to me. I still don’t quite get it.
  • The Social Network: Do people really talk that fast? I mean, holy moly, take a breath every once in a while. It was good though. Much better than I thought it would be. Also, my husband liked it. And he *hates* Facebook.

Up tomorrow is Winter’s Bone, which we have on DVD from Netflix.

I guess after that I need to conquer whatever is on Netflix in the Instant Queue that’s been nominated.

I’ve thought about it and I can’t come up with anything better. So I’m just going to have to blurt it out.

ON SATURDAY I WAS IN CHICAGO WITH MY VERY BEST FRIEND AND WE WERE IN BANANA REPUBLIC AND I MET TOM HANKS!!

See?

I couldn’t have casually told a story of how we were at Water Tower, and then went to Bloomingdales, and then went to lunch on the 95th floor of the John Hancock Building, and then went BACK to Bloomingdales, and then we decided to go to the Adidas store at Water Tower but at the last minute my very best friend suggested we go into Banana Republic and then I got lost in a pile of sweaters. And then I found out they were men’s sweaters. So then I was directed to the back of the store where the women’s sweaters are.

And then my very best friend was all: Kim. Kim. KIM. KIM. KIM. KIIIIIMMMMM!

And was all: What?

And then she talked to me with her jaw clenched shut and didn’t move her lips the entire time. I could not understand a word she was saying.

Me: What?

Her: Tomhanksandritawilsonareinthestore.

Me: Are you kidding me?

Her: Tomhanksandritawilsonareinthestore.

And then I dropped my piles of sweaters and scurried over to the register area.

HOLY COW. She was not kidding me! There was Tom Hanks, leaning up against the counter, while Rita Wilson was busy looking for something – I think. We wandered over to a table and had a fake conversation about a sweater. I think I may have picked up a hat and tried it on my hand. It was so lame.

Me: Do you think I should talk to him?

Her: No way. Leave him alone.

Okay.

And then what did I do? I moved out of the way so Rita could get around me and then made a beeline to Mr. Hanks.

No one else in the store seemed to even notice that an Oscar winning actor was in the store! Therefore, I felt that I should at the very least respect his privacy and not say something like: Mr. Hanks! Lovely to meet you! I’m a HUGE fan!!! Can I get a picture? Autograph? Loved you in at least a zillion movies! So …. Coco hey?

Instead I said, “Excuse me, I loved you on Conan!”

He laughed.

And then I went back to my sweater pile.
